ADAM PARSHALL

Adam started his career in Boston’s music and arts community in 2012 writing about shows around town for Allston Pudding, Vanyaland, and working as Content Manager for Do617.com, promoting events and spreading awareness of Boston’s thriving music scene to wider audiences. He picked up a camera to shoot shows for the first time while briefly living in Raleigh, NC in 2013, and reignited his love for the visual art in early 2017. Since then, he has been nominated for a Boston Music Award, toured with bands like Weakened Friends, Rebuilder, Actor|Observer, and worked as a concert, portrait, street, events, and marketing photographer in addition to a variety of day jobs in the marketing and media industries. He’s called the Allston/Brighton area home for the majority of his time in Boston.

ARTIST Q&A

Born: Washington, DC

Currently lives: Allston, MA

Title of artwork: and a toast to east coast skylines

What’s it about? I got more and more into film photography in 2018, and have been working to become a bit of a hybrid digital/film shooter much more since late 2019. I’ve bought and sold a bunch of different cameras, and have been trying to test more and more film stocks. So naturally, that’s led to a lot of aimless wandering around Allston. I was testing a new camera and film stock at the same time one day, and, like it always does, the Arcand sign caught me eye. I thought that it, along with other iconic local buildings and signs, represented a unique individual skyline to Allston that was immediately recognizable. Being originally from Washington, DC and growing up within walking distance of the National Mall, the White House, and every other famous DC landmark that you can possibly think of, the idea of having these neighborhood industrial beacons of pride has always stuck with me in a way that I never had when I was growing up in DC and the Maryland suburbs.

Where else can we find your work? My website, my instagram, the @emonightboston social channels, and various band and artist pages!

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? I have a soft spot for Wendy Schiller’s relatively recent tribute to Great Scott on the electrical box on the corner of Harvard Ave and Comm Ave.

What would your last meal be? Mac & cheese

Last show you binge watched? Futurama.

Go-to karaoke song? Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots

Place in Allston/Brighton that you have missed the most? Great Scott, hands down.

What have you learned about your creative practice over the last year? Doing anything is better than doing nothing. Get out and shoot, dingus (me, talking to me!).

A piece of advice you would give to your pre-pandemic self? You’re not QUITE as dumb as you tell yourself. Still dumb. But. Not AS dumb.
