SARAH LOFTUS

 

Sarah Loftus is an illustrator from MA with themes primarily focused on plants and nature. She has gained inspiration through connections with the various landscapes in which she has travelled and resided. Much of her work is informed by studying and practicing herbal medicine and working with plants as a landscaper and gardener. Sarah currently resides in Roslindale, MA.

Born: Bourne, MA

Currently lives: Boston, MA

Title of artwork: “Calendula “

What’s it about?This is a drawing of one of my favorite plants..It is incredibly resilient and beautiful and is one of my favorite scents. I fell in love with it while working on an herbal medicine farm in Williams, OR.

Where else can we find your work? Casa Verde in Jamaica Plain, as well as some makers markets throughout the year.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? There are so many beautiful murals. ‘All that Empty Space” by Chris DeLorenzo is great.

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? Casey Williams from JP makes beautiful things!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? Exploring a new area and going for a hike to look for wild mushrooms.

What was your top song for 2022? “Art Isn’t Real (City of Sin)”- Deer Tick

Favorite food spot in in Allston, Brighton or the surrounding area? Pho Viet

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? I’ve learned about the importance of creating time and space to work on my projects.

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? I don’t know if young Sarah would like to hear this, but just try to get comfortable with the fact that not everyone is going to like your work.

What is your dream project to work on? I have many, but would really love the opportunity to create a large scale public art piece.
