ARTIST Q&A

Born: Orlando, FL

Currently lives: Allston, MA

Title of artwork: Ornament of Piety 002

What’s it about? The “Ornament of Piety” series uses a collection of over 90 photographs from a bridal shop that were purchased off of Ebay. The series of overpainted photographs is examining the misogynistic implications of the ‘bride’ as well as the celebratory feelings of dressing up and feeling pretty. I also have it set up so that each purchase of this series includes a 25$ donation to Community United Against Violence, an organization whose mission is to “support the healing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people that have experienced violence and abuse by other people and /or institutions.”

Where else can we find your work? On Mostly on my instagram. hopefully I will be in more shows soon enough 😉

What have you learned about your creative practice over the last year? I think I have a new appreciation for my drive to continuously produce work and keep practicing new techniques. Having more free time at home has led me to trying a lot of new mediums like resin jewelry, paper marbling, crocheting, cyanotype, and more.

A piece of advice you would give to your pre-pandemic self: I would tell myself to go out to more events. I was already such a homebody before the pandemic and I am hoping to be more proactive socially once things can start opening back up safely.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area?  Theres a painted power box that has the ’90’s cup’ design, it’s right by my house so I pass it a lot, and I always have enjoyed that color combination.

What would your last meal be? Definitely BBQ, I love a good beef brisket sandwich.

Go-to karaoke song? Ordinary Day by Vanessa Carlton is my go-to.

Last show you binge watched? I recently binged Evil on Netflix. I think it’s a great horror show and I liked the way that it approached more contemporary topics like a “Possessed Alexa” and a Demonic entity using a VR game.

Place in Allston/Brighton that you have missed the most? I’ve been going to Urban Renewals since I moved to Boston 4 years ago. It was really sad when they moved out of Allston!
