ARTIST Q&A

Born: Ragusa (Italy)

Currently lives: Watertown, MA

Title of artwork: Pasta Pattern

What’s it about? This illustration combines two of the things that I love the most: patterns and homemade food. The illustration is based on a photo of my mother that I took a while ago, while I was visiting her in Sicily. Homemade pasta is one of our family traditions!

Where else can we find your work? On Instagram and Etsy. (But also online at www.carladipasquale.com). I have also created a number of book/album covers and posters.

What have you learned about your creative practice over the last year? Less is more, and sometimes the most simple and basic materials and tools can help to push your creative boundaries much further than fancy equipment. I draw everyday with my son and most of the time I use cheap markers, tiny pieces of crayons and recycled paper… the results can be surprising!

A piece of advice you would give to your pre-pandemic self: Get out of that apartment and go work from a coffee shop! You’ll have plenty of time to work from home in your pajamas…

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? The Jessie and Katey Art House in Allston. I still remember the first time I saw it, on the bus. It was actually the reason why I got to know about Zone 3 in first place.

What would your last meal be? Cannoli!

Go-to karaoke song? Ain’t no mountain high enough – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

Last show you binge watched? Foodie Love

Place in Allston/Brighton that you have missed the most? FOMU! (I do have a sweet tooth!)
